FINALLY THE FALL OF TRIPOLI

Photobucket
For 6 months the situations were fluid and uncertain. Suddenly over the weekend Tripoli was under siege. And the end finally came. Tripoli has fallen. Throughout the night, the Libyan rebels moved into the centre of Tripoli in convoys of pickup trucks shooting in the air. They were greeted with cheers by thousands of jubilant civilians who rushed out of their homes. Celebrations spilled over from Tripoli into cities around the world.

Col. Gaddafi whereabouts is currently unknown. The whereabouts of other senior Gaddafi officials is also unknown including Abdullah al-Senussi, Gaddafi's longtime intelligence chief (and his brother-in-law), who is wanted by the ICC for carrying out a campaign of murder, mass arrest and torture.

The fate of Gaddafi's sons:

Mohammad: Surrendered to rebel fighters in Tripoli.

Saif al-Islam: Captured by rebel fighters in Tripoli; possibly facing extradition to The Hague.

Saadi: Captured by rebel fighters in Tripoli.

Hannibal: At large.

Mutasim: At large.

Saif al-Arab: Killed by a NATO airstrike in April.

Khamis: At large; unsubstantiated rumours that he was killed.

The road ahead is certainly not a rosy one for the Libyans but they will be able to rebuild their nation given the tremendous sacrifice they have made to regain their voice and dignity. Most importantly, the youth of Libya has proven that their voice should be heeded and ignoring the issues is only postponing the inevitable.

Till we meet again, take care.

  16. Iced coffee is what many people are drinking here now. I can get it almost anywhere, but I may try to make it with your recipe. It will probably taste better that way.
