Assalamualaikum and hello my dear readers,
Just a simple dessert today. It is called Wheat Sweet Porridge (Bubur Gandum). Nothing fancy. It's tasty and filling. Good for dessert, afternoon tea or supper. The palm sugar can be substituted with brown or white sugar.
Here's the short video.Happy trying.
The recipe:
Wheat Sweet Porridge (Bubur Gandum)
1 cup wheat( boil until soft)
600 ml coconut milk
1 pandan leaf (screw pine leaf)
1 tsp salt
1 and half palm sugar (boil with 2 cups water.

WHEAT SWEET PORRIDGE (BUBUR GANDUM)
Method:
1) Boil the palm sugar and let it cool.
2) Add the coconut milk, salt, screw pine leaf and wheat.
3) Bring to boil and serve.
MY THOUGHTS

SATAY SELLER
The wheat sweet porridge reminds me of the porridge sellers in the bygone era. They were quite a regular sight during the pre war days till late 60's. The hawkers would carry one pot containing the wheat sweet porridge or green beans sweet porridge and a rattan basket containing bowls and spoons and assorted stuff like glutinous rice and bread,on a long pole balanced on their shoulders. Some customers would use their own container to take away but the fun was in squatting down by the road side beneath a tree enjoying a bowl of wheat or green beans sweet porridge with bread or glutinous rice added. Better still if there was a durian seller nearby. The durian would add oomph to the sweet porridge.

HAWKER
In those days most food were hawk in this manner; satay, mee, laksa, kuehs etc. Now the hawkers are moved into food courts in malls or a special side walk food stalls or squares. The laid back and slow pace way of life of Malaya and a younger Malaysia is gone.
Take care.

About hawkers :
I remember there was a hawkers place in the open air compound of one of the mall in P.J, they provide lots of foods.

I am sure Indonesian food though similar in some ways are also different in another and really awesome too.
Ya somewhere around section 14 I think.I ate out very verty rarely so I am not sure if its still there. KL and PJ change so rapidly so hard to keep up where everything is :)
I love to cook and thus don't really like eating out unless some special occasions.Ramadhan especially not eating out.
Thank you Harry for visiting and leaving a comment.Take care.
